Belarusian PM urges to salvage timber from storm-damaged trees

BYKHOV DISTRICT, 7 August (BelTA) – The main task now is to clean up the storm damage and salvage timber from storm-damaged trees, Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko told the media during a working visit to Bykhov District, Mogilev Oblast to inspect the progress on windfall recovery.

Storm recovery is a multi-stage process. The country's forestry is facing  serious tasks: to clean up windfalls in the shortest possible time and prevent the timber from losing its technical qualities.
"Timber facilities are ready to process large volumes of timber. But first it is important to clean up windfalls, take [timber] out, process it, manufacture products, sell them and restore forests. This is exactly what the president said. Everything should be used as efficiently as possible,” Roman Golovchenko noted.
All downed trees will be used in industrial production. "There are no problems with this. Especially since our pulp mill has reached its full capacity. All 4 to 6 million cubic meters will be sent to our enterprises which ask us to increase supplies for plywood production," the prime minister said.
According to him, all works should be done promptly. "It is important to protect timber from rain and heat. We are doing our best,” he said. “The task is to fulfill the order [of the president], while getting the greatest economic effect,” Roman Golovchenko added.
