Belarusian nuclear power plant’s power output past last year’s total in January-August 2024

MINSK, 10 September (BelTA) – In January-August 2024 the Belarusian nuclear power plant generated 11.8 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity or as much as it did in the entire last year. Belarusian Energy Minister Aleksei Kushnarenko mentioned the figure as he met with workers of the cogeneration plant No.5 branch of the Minsk Oblast electric company Minskenergo, the Energy Ministry press service told BelTA.

As part of an awareness-raising day Aleksei Kushnarenko made a speech on the topic “We will stay together forever” ahead of the 85th anniversary of Western Belarus’ reunification with the Belarusian Soviet Socialist Republic (BSSR). The energy minister talked to employees of the cogeneration plant about details of development of electric energy branch, the natural gas branch, and the peat branch of the energy industry and about the operation of the Belarusian nuclear power plant. He stressed that at present the nuclear power plant satisfies about 40% of the country’s demand for electricity.

“Since the first unit of the nuclear power plant was connected to the national power grid, a total of 34.5 billion kWh of electricity has been generated. It allowed substituting 9.3 billion m3 of natural gas. In January-August 2024 the nuclear power plant generated 11.8 billion kWh of electricity or as much as it did in the entire last year,” Aleksei Kushnarenko noted.

In conclusion of the meeting the energy minister answered questions of the workers.
