MINSK, 1 April (BelTA) – A multi-brand center of Belarusian machinery may open in Russia’s Orel Oblast, Governor of Russia’s Orel Oblast Andrei Klychkov told the media after the meeting with Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko on 1 April, BelTA has learned.

The Russian governor confirmed his intentions to deepen cooperation with Belarus, which already ranks fourth in the region’s foreign trade. He singled out the agro-industrial complex among the key promising areas.

“Orel Oblast is one of Russia’s leaders in agriculture. We see great potential for the use of Belarusian agricultural machinery. We have already gained considerable experience of cooperation with MAZ and MTZ, integration with our enterprises. Therefore, we will be working on an initiative to create a multi-brand service dealer center in Orel Oblast,” Andrei Klychkov said.

In his words, in Q1 2024 the region purchased almost 50 units of Belarusian machinery and intends to buy about 80 more throughout the year.

As for agriculture, the parties have made progress in the selection of sugar beet seeds, soybeans, rapeseed, and grain crops.

Construction is another promising area where Orel Oblast is ready to develop cooperation with Belarus. “A school was built in one of the towns [with the participation of Belarus] in the pre-Covid period. We think that we can build close cooperation now as well. We have suggested Belarusian colleagues ten sites for complex residential development,” the governor said.

According to him, Orel Oblast is one of the centers of microelectronics in the Central Federal District, and there are good prospects for deepening cooperation with Belarusian enterprises in this sector.

At the meeting with the Belarusian president, Andrei Klychkov emphasized the strong historical bonds of friendship, which were forged in the battles against the Nazis during the Great Patriotic War. Today the countries are close allies and strategic partners. “What is important for us today is the development of joint productions. I absolutely support the task you have outlined, which is to double the trade [in 2023, the trade between Belarus and Orel Oblast amounted to about $250 million]. This is the task we are ready to set and move towards its implementation. This will help us develop more actively, regardless of any sanctions,” the governor said.
