Belarusian MTZ to open assembly enterprise in Cairo in 2021

MINSK, 14 December (BelTA) – The Belarusian tractor manufacturer MTZ intends to open an assembly enterprise in Cairo, Egypt. MTZ Director General Vitaly Vovk mentioned the plans as he met with Chairman of the Egyptian part of the Belarus-Egypt Business Cooperation Council, Director General of Egyptian International Pharmaceutical Industries Company Ahmed Kelani, the MTZ press service told BelTA.

According to Vitaly Vovk, the Egyptian side suggested several sites and MTZ chose the one in Cairo where manufacturing and proprietary retail can be combined. “We are evaluating everything for now, working remotely. But I am convinced that the project will progress because both sides are interested in cooperation. We expect tractor assembly to begin in Cairo in 2021,” the executive noted.

In January-November 2020 MTZ's export to Egypt rose by 40% in comparison with the same period of last year. “Certainly, we would have liked the figure to be higher but the pandemic interfered. We hope to raise sales to at least 1,000 tractors per annum soon. Without assembly enterprises. With assembly enterprises we intend to reach 5,000 tractors and more,” the director general said.

In turn, Ahmed Kelani expressed interest in expanding vectors of Belarus-Egypt cooperation. In particular, plans have been made to discuss the possibility of projects in pharmaceutical industry and in waste processing to extract secondary resources during the current visit.
