Belarusian MMZ designs gas reciprocating engine

MINSK, 2 November (BelTA) – The Belarusian engine manufacturer MMZ has designed the gas reciprocating engine model MMZ-262CNG based on the diesel engine D-262, the company's press service told BelTA.

The project to create a gas reciprocating engine that burns compressed natural gas is being implemented in tight cooperation with a company from the Republic of Tatarstan, Russia. The work began in 2019. MMZ was put in charge of designing the mechanical part of the engine while the Russian company with its vast experience of converting diesel engines into gas reciprocating ones was supposed to come up with the gas equipment and tune the engine in order to achieve the desired performance parameters. The new MMZ-262CNG engine is meant for automobiles, tractors, harvesters, loaders, and other vehicles.

The first few samples of the engine are being manufactured now. Bench tests and field tests will be carried out.

During a recent visit to Moscow to attend the international gas technology expo GasSuf 2021 MMZ Chief Technology Officer Igor Anushkevich and the company's Chief Designer Mikhail Klesso met with representatives of a Russian company based in the Republic of Tatarstan. The sides discussed progress of the bench tests and field tests of the new engine, the engine's certification, and the production of a pilot batch. Representatives of the Russian company expressed interest in buying a batch of the gas reciprocating engines from MMZ. The engines will be made in Q1 2022.

During GasSuf 2021 MMZ representatives also met with representatives of companies from Italy and South Korea, which make compressor equipment for the oil and gas industry, for the sake of buying compressor equipment for the Belarusian company's division that will test gas reciprocating engines. Possible ways to incorporate knockdown heat exchange units into MMZ engines were discussed with representatives of a Russian company that makes the heat exchange units.

During the 20th international expo of industrial pumps, compressors, valves, actuators and engines PCVExpo 2021 MMZ Chief Technology Officer Igor Anushkevich and the company's Chief Designer Mikhail Klesso took a close look at products made by prominent international diesel engine manufacturers. Engine R&D guidelines were worked out for the sake of keeping up with the leading manufacturers.
