Belarusian Industry Ministry to reroute more shipments to Asia, Africa, South and Central Americas

MINSK, 1 March (BelTA) – The Industry Ministry intends to redirect a quarter of shipments to the markets of Asia, Africa, South and Central Americas, BelTA learned from Belarusian Industry Minister Aleksandr Rogozhnik before a session of the Industry Ministry board.

Aleksandr Rogozhnik said: “We did remarkably well last year in terms of output and export. At the same time most of the exports went to the Russian Federation. When a niche became vacant on the Russian market, we had to do everything to occupy it. Our shipments to the European market and Ukraine are restricted. We’ve done everything to keep the enterprises working steadily. Our export of virtually all commodity groups has increased over the last three years.”

In his words, shipment diversification is the main task the Industry Ministry faces. “We’ve done a lot of work with regard to markets of South America and Central America. We are now channeling all the efforts to the markets of Africa and Asia. Quite good perspectives are available over there. We did well in Uzbekistan. And the president’s visit to that country demonstrated it,” the industry minister noted. “I hope this year will be a decisive one and will demonstrate that we can work on other markets, too. We intend to redirect 25% of the total volume of export to the markets I’ve mentioned.”
