MINSK, 3 January (BelTA) – The Belarusian Forestry Ministry completed the year 2024, almost fully recovered from the sanctions, Deputy Forestry Minister Vladimir Krech told BelTA.
“I can confidently say that we completed the year 2024, having almost fully recovered from the sanctions. In some areas, we have significantly increased both volumes and qualitative indicators, as well as financial performance. We have brought them back to the pre-sanctions level. Today we are showing a stable economy. We have a good net profit. We have reached the revenue the Forestry Ministry had in H1 2021, which was one of the most successful years for the ministry,” Vladimir Krech said.
Among the best achievements of 2024, the deputy minister singled out a record-high export of 1 million cubic meters of timber. “This is one of the largest timber outputs. The Forestry Ministry actively increases the sale of products from trading platforms. In 2024 we earned more than Br23 million worth of revenue from these platforms. This is a significant growth, almost twice as much as in 2023,” he said.
Vladimir Krech also noted that there was a significant growth in sales of wooden house kits and bath kits in 2024. “Last year we sold more than 80 house kits and about 60 bath kits. This is also a great result, an 8 or 9-time increase from 2023,” he emphasized.
According to the deputy minister, the Forestry Ministry actively develops its scientific and digitalization areas. “Digitalization in the industry is moving forward at a very serious pace. For example, the wood accounting system EGAIS has been introduced into the work of Belarusian foresters. In December the ministry received a certificate for a new, absolutely innovative measuring device - a stereoscanner, which helps measure wood thanks to digital photography. This will greatly facilitate the work of middle-level engineers and technicians. This is exactly what we are striving for. Such a simple job as measuring each log with a tape measure, which takes a huge amount of time, will be replaced by a device that will calculate everything. This stereoscanner is certified and can be used both for accounting and for our EGAIS system,” Vladimir Krech said.
