Belarusian farmers start gathering in maize

MINSK, 12 September (BelTA) – A maize harvesting campaign has begun in Belarus, BelTA learned from the Agriculture and Food Ministry.

Belarusian agricultural enterprises have harvested cereals and leguminous crops (including maize) from 2.157 million hectares, which is 86.9% of the targeted area. Progress was at 88.7% (356,800ha) in Brest Oblast, 81.9% (350,200ha) in Gomel Oblast, 87.3% (310,400ha) in Grodno Oblast, 84.1% (454,900ha) in Minsk Oblast, and 84.5% (335,600ha) in Mogilev Oblast.

Maize has been harvested from an area of 2,800ha, producing 22,400 tonnes with the average yield at 80.2 centners per hectare. Colza has been harvested from an area of 352,500ha (98.3% of the area under this crop), producing 888,000 tonnes with the average yield at 25.2 centners per hectare. Excluding this crop, all kinds of agricultural enterprises have gathered in 8.186 million tonnes of cereals.

Millet has been harvested from an area of 8,770ha (75.2% of the area under this crop), producing 19,800 tonnes with the average yield at 22.6 centners per hectare. Buckwheat has been harvested from an area of 24,100ha (69.7% of the area under this crop), producing 32,700 tonnes with the average yield at 13.6 centners per hectare.

Sugar beet has been harvested from 5,290ha, which makes up 5.74% of the targeted area. Potatoes have been harvested from 4,190ha (16.1% of the target area).

In 2022 the government intends to buy 811,400 tonnes of cereals.
