MINSK, 4 April (BelTA) – Vegetable farming and fruit growing are key branches of import substitution by private farming enterprises. Belarusian Deputy Agriculture and Food Minister Alla Lomakina made the statement at a session of the public advisory board on entrepreneurship development under the Agriculture and Food Ministry, BelTA has learned.
Alla Lomakina noted that farming business in Belarus has a high potential. “The state is directly interested in the dynamic development of this sector. Vegetable farming and fruit growing are in the highest demand at present. They represent one of the key areas in import substitution due to the pressure of sanctions. There are also great opportunities for further development of animal husbandry, including sheep breeding,” the official believes.
According to the Agriculture and Food Ministry, in 2016-2021 the share of private farmers in the total output of the main kinds of agricultural products grew from 2% to 2.9%.
