GRODNO DISTRICT, 7 June (BelTA) – It is absolutely necessary to create growth points for the sake of introducing cutting-edge concepts in agriculture. Prime Minister of Belarus Roman Golovchenko mentioned it as he visited the agricultural enterprise named after I.P. Senko as part of a working trip to Grodno Oblast, BelTA has learned.
The prime minister hosted a conference to discuss the development of the program meant to guide the transition of agriculture to a new technological level. The introduction of precision farming systems was one of the items on the agenda.
“We are having this conversation in order to formulate the tasks that have to be accomplished soon in order to fulfill instructions of the head of state. A lot of discussions are in progress. Everyone has his or her point of view on the development of these processes depending on their experience and other perceptions. But we cannot move forward in a decentralized manner if we talk about the scale of the country,” Roman Golovchenko is convinced.
The prime minister stressed that it is necessary to work out an integral system for the high-tech development of agriculture in the long run across the country. “It doesn’t mean that the entire country will transition to precision farming tomorrow. Certainly, it is impossible due to differences in levels. But it is absolutely necessary to create so-called growth points, exemplary agricultural enterprises where cutting-edge technologies will be introduced and trialed. The rest of the country will follow suit,” Roman Golovchenko believes.
The prime minister pointed out that the world lacks a universal approach that is applicable to all the regions. “Scientists are debating what soil cultivation technology is more efficient. We need to make up our minds about how to proceed. And most importantly about what we need to do on the national scale from the point of view of preparing the infrastructure, including for precision farming,” he said.
