MINSK, 24 January (BelTA) - Exports of Belarusian products to China through the Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange (BUCE) increased by 1.6 times in 2024, amounting to $129.3 million, BelTA learned from the BUCE press service.
Head of the BUCE office in Shanghai Aleksei Dykusha met with a Belarusian delegation consisting of First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Lukashevich, Deputy Finance Minister Pavel Lemekh, and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to China Aleksandr Chervyakov. The meeting focused on the prospects for promoting trade and economic cooperation between Belarus and China, including the role of exchange trade in ensuring momentum of mutual trade between the two countries.
According to Aleksei Dykusha, the largest amount of transactions was concluded for products of the wood industry, namely softwood lumber. Milk powder, butter, milk cream powder, and semi-finished beef products were also supplied to the Chinese market through exchange trading last year. This year, Chinese business communities continue to show great interest in Belarus-made goods. In the first half of January 2025, exchange transactions totaling $3.7 million have already been concluded.
Over 250 Chinese companies have already been accredited on the BUCE, Aleksei Dykusha stated. This is twice as many as in June 2023, when the BUCE opened its office in Shanghai. Many of the Chinese residents attracted by the representative office participate in exchange trading regularly, concluding both import and export contracts.
“The main task of the BUCE office is to ensure the growth of the exchange trade between Belarus and China. We are working in two key areas. On the one hand, we ensure the increase in sales of Belarusian goods in the Chinese market. On the other hand, we promote imports of Chinese products that are in demand in Belarus. As for exports, we try to provide a comprehensive service: we study demand, look for potential buyers, attract them to the exchange platform, accompany them in bidding, and create conditions for concluding deals. As a result, in 2024 the sales of domestic products to China grew by more than 1.5 times. As for imports, the efforts of the representative office helped to organize purchases in China of such commodity items as polymers, food raw materials, photo and light equipment, industrial equipment and components. Thus, we helped a number of Belarusian enterprises to promptly solve the matters of import substitution,” Aleksei Dykusha emphasized.
The public joint-stock company (OAO) Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange was established in 2004. The first trade sessions took place in June 2005. BUCE is one of the largest commodity exchanges in Eastern Europe. Its key function is to assist Belarusian companies with exporting their products and assist foreign companies with entering the Belarusian market. The commodity exchange facilitates trade in metals, timber, agricultural products, and a broad choice of industrial and consumer goods.
