Belarusian Belkommunmash, Tajikistan working on $30m contract

MINSK, 28 June (BelTA) – The Belarusian mechanical engineering company Belkommunmash is working on a contract to sell $30 million worth of products to Tajikistan, BelTA learned from Belkommunmash CEO Vladimir Korol.

The executive noted: “We've been working with Tajikistan for a year. I should note it has been a fruitful year. We are in negotiations on selling a very large batch of merchandise. Over $30 million. These days we supply new solutions – in-motion charging trolleybuses. It is a very interesting idea for them because it addresses many problems and enables transportation to and from suburbs. The operation [of such vehicles] over the course of one year has produced good results. They are satisfied.”

According to Vladimir Korol, Belkommunmash is satisfied with cooperation with Tajikistan and the respectable attitude of the partners. Commercial negotiations are now in progress. Terms of shipments are being agreed. “We have to strike the right balance,” the head of the company said.

Vladimir Korol also remarked that cooperation with Tajikistan is also interesting from the point of view of prospects of using the country as a springboard for promoting Belkommunmash products to other countries in the region. “Our project is a complex one and gradual. We intend to set up an aftersales service center soon and will train personnel there. We consider this center as a base for an assembly enterprise afterwards. Yes, we see prospects of reaching [markets of other countries]. There is no doubt it is a good point for continuing work bearing in mind third countries,” Vladimir Korol stressed.

For the last few years Tajikistan's capital city of Dushanbe has been working hard to modernize and renew its stock of passenger transport. This year's city budget provides for buying over 300 vehicles. In May 2019 Belkommunmash sold four in-motion charging trolleybuses to Dushanbe within the framework of the project designed to develop the city's mass transit system thanks to a loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. The sum of the contract was $1 million. In May 2019 Belkommunmash and the Dushanbe city administration signed an agreement of intent to supply 100 in-motion charging trolleybuses. The possibility of supplying 150 vehicles is being negotiated now. The vehicles are supposed to be shipped using financing options of OAO Promagroleasing.
