Belarusian ambassador on economic windfall from high-tech projects

MINSK, 28 September (BelTA) – Belarusian Ambassador to Russia Dmitry Krutoi talked about the economic windfall from high-technology projects as he addressed the expert and media forum "Belarus-Russia cooperation in industry, science and technology. Science. Cosmos. Education", BelTA has learned.

"The company-coordinator of the Belarusian satellite in orbit earned $30 million in revenue for 10 years, paid $14 million in taxes. The companies that supplied components for the satellite as part of other projects, even in other countries, earned $30 million only on satellite adverts, and the country saved $33 million in foreign currency by not paying for images from foreign satellites. The overall windfall is more than $100 million," Ambassador Dmitry Krutoi said.

"The Belarusian nuclear power plant has not yet reached its full capacity but there is already a package of projects worth $2.5 billion in related industries that will use its energy. These include electric transport, from the production of electric motors to fast charging stations for electric vehicles, and also mining, accumulation of energy.

He also stated that three new sectors of the Belarusian economy (IT, nuclear energy and space) hold about 10% of the country's economic potential today.
