Belarus, Vietnam seek closer ties in S&T

MINSK, 8 April (BelTA) – Belarus is ready to enhance scientific and technical cooperation with Vietnam in digital transformation, energy, environment protection and agriculture, the press service of Belarus’ State Committee on Science and Technology (SCST) told BelTA.

A working visit of SCST representatives to Hanoi ended. Deputy Chairwoman of the SCST Tatyana Stolyarova and Deputy Head of the International Science, Technology and Innovation Policy Department Sergei Sinukovich participated in the session of the Belarusian-Vietnamese intergovernmental commission on trade-economic and scientific-technical cooperation, the opening of the international exhibition Vietnam Expo and the Belarusian-Vietnamese business forum. Within the framework of the visit, Tatyana Stolyarova also met with Vietnam's Deputy Science and Technology Minister Bui The Duy.

Tatyana Stolyarova emphasized Belarus' interest in expanding bilateral scientific and technical cooperation. Currently, the countries are working on a framework agreement in these areas. She stressed Belarus' readiness to cooperate with Vietnam in priority areas such as digital transformation, energy, environment protection, agriculture, and new materials. Moreover, she confirmed intentions to strengthen ties between researchers and scientists of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Belarusian universities and enterprises and Vietnamese partners. During the visit, Tatyana Stolyarova and Sergei Sinukovich also studied the activities of the Vietnam Atomic Energy Institute.

Bui The Duy outlined Vietnam's policy priorities in science, technology, innovation and digital transformation. Vietnam views these areas as key factors of developing modern productive forces, reforming national governance and advancing the country's social and economic development. He proposed drafting a cooperation program for 2025-2027 focusing both on traditional and emerging areas such as digital economy, IT, digital transformation and innovations.

The deputy minister pointed out that Vietnam is a dynamically developing market with a key position in Southeast Asia. The country aims to address several pressing urban and environmental issues. He invited Belarusian scientists and startups to cooperate with Vietnamese enterprises, especially in digital technologies, including artificial intelligence. Bui The Duy also expressed a wish to boost nuclear energy cooperation between the Vietnam Atomic Energy Institute and Belarusian partners.

The Vietnam Atomic Energy Institute is a leading research organization specializing in studying and applying atomic energy for peaceful purposes. The institute is affiliated with Vietnam’s Science and Technology Ministry. It fulfills governmental functions and coordinates scientific research in nuclear technologies.
