MINSK, 22 July (BelTA) – Belarus-Uzbekistan trade in agricultural goods rose by more than seven times over the course of five years. The figures were discussed as Belarusian Agriculture and Food Minister Ivan Krupko met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Uzbekistan Leonid Marinich, BelTA has learned.
The meeting touched upon future cooperation and the advancement of trade and economic relations between Belarus and Uzbekistan. For Belarus Uzbekistan is a promising trade and economic partner in the Central Asia region. Mutual trade in agricultural goods rose by more than seven times in the last five years, the Agriculture and Food Ministry press service told BelTA.
In 2020 Belarus exported $87.3 million worth of agricultural goods and food to Uzbekistan. In January-May 2021 the figure exceeded $35.5 million. The main exports Belarus ships to Uzbekistan are beef, cheese, milk powder, baby food, and chocolate.
Belarus and Uzbekistan maintain active cooperation in agricultural education, joint faculties have been created. Cooperation has been established between Belarusian and Uzbek applied science centers in the area of crop variety testing. A joint selection and genetics center has started working in Uzbekistan. Sales of Belarusian pedigree products are part of the project. The Belarusian company BelVitunipharm and the Samarkand Veterinary Medicine Institute are working to set up a joint venture to make veterinary medications in Tashkent Oblast, Uzbekistan.
