Belarus, Uzbekistan discuss cooperation in economy, manufacturing sector

MINSK, 6 February (BelTA) – Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Aleinik and Uzbekistan Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov held talks in Tashkent on 6 February, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The parties discussed a wide range of issues on the bilateral and multilateral agenda. Particular attention was paid to the development of trade and economic cooperation and increasing mutual trade, strengthening food security and developing industrial cooperation projects.

The parties expressed confidence that the 2nd Forum of Regions of Belarus and Uzbekistan, which will be held in Tashkent on 7 February, will make an important contribution to economic ties and direct interaction between the regions of the two countries. The forum will bring together more than 150 representatives of Belarus’ regions and business community.

The ministers lauded the high level of cooperation in education, healthcare, culture, sports and tourism and also exchanged views on the situation in the world and in the Eurasian region.

The ministers discussed cooperation in the UN, CIS and SCO. The parties praised similar approaches to building a dialogue on international platforms and reaffirmed their commitment to a fairer world order.

Sergei Aleinik thanked Uzbekistan for its consistent support of Belarus that seeks to obtain the status of a member state of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

The ministers also reviewed the schedule of bilateral events and visits for the near future.

During his visit to Uzbekistan, the minister laid flowers at the bust of Belarusian writer, poet and public figure Yakub Kolas, who lived in Tashkent in 1941-1943.
