Belarus unaffected by Lithuania's decision to reduce throughput of transboundary power lines

MINSK, 14 September (BelTA) – The decision by Lithuania's National Energy Regulatory Council (NERC) to reduce the throughput capacity of transboundary power lines in the Lithuanian-Belarusian direction will not affect the operation of the Belarusian power grid, the press service of the Belarusian Energy Ministry told BelTA.

According to the source, the measures Lithuania has taken affect electricity trade with third countries. The Lithuanian side had repeatedly stated it intended to reduce commercial supplies of electricity via the transboundary power lines with Belarus, this is why the decision made on 13 September was not unexpected.

At the same time the Belarusian side has yet to receive any official notifications from the Lithuanian regulatory agency.
