MINSK, 22 November (BelTA) - The trade between Belarus and the UAE has more than tripled over the past five years, Belarusian Economy Minister Aleksandr Chervyakov said during the opening ceremony of the National Day of Belarus at EXPO 2020 in Dubai, BelTA has learned.
“Belarus and the United Arab Emirates maintain the closest ties. The history of diplomatic relations dates back more than 30 years. Today, the UAE is an important trading partner for us in the Gulf region, a significant investor in the Belarusian economy. Over the past five years, trade has more than tripled. The bilateral trade in services is growing steadily. We will continue to strive for mutually beneficial cooperation in trade," Aleksandr Chervyakov said.
According to him, the inflow of UAE investments in Belarus has been increasing. "Since 2016, investments have almost quadrupled. These trends indicate that the investor interest in Belarus has been growing. We do not stand still. We have plans to implement new, very ambitious projects that will help us to build on the results we have already achieved in investment cooperation," the minister noted.
Belarus seeks to use EXPO 2020 to maximize the investment and innovative opportunities of the country. "The Belarusian pavilion presents our latest achievements in economy, science and culture. The exposition narrates about the natural diversity of our country, advanced technologies, high environmental standards and careful attitude to the national traditions. I am sure that the Belarusian exposition will become an effective platform for meetings and negotiations not only with our partners from the UAE, but also other participating states. Belarus is open to everyone, so we organized the Belarusian investment forum within the framework of the National Day. This event is a great opportunity to present our country to a wide range of participants, to showcase the investment potential and the prospects for cooperation and, most importantly, to sign agreements to implement joint projects that will bring us new technologies, new products, knowledge and experience. Participants, visitors to the exhibition from different parts of the world have the opportunity to get familiar with the national identity of Belarus, its historical and cultural heritage, sports achievements, arts and crafts, cuisine and traditions of our country," the Belarusian minister said.
