MINSK, 16 July (BelTA) – Belarus and the United Arab Emirates aim to implement joint projects in agriculture, the press service of the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry told BelTA following talks between Belarusian Agriculture and Food Minister Yuri Gorlov and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the UAE to Belarus Ibrahim Salim Mohamed Al Musharrakh.
The parties discussed food security and the development of trade and economic cooperation, praising the strong momentum in bilateral relations. In 2024, trade in food products and agricultural raw materials between the two countries increased by 3.3 times, while exports grew by 3.7 times compared to 2023. This demonstrates the growing interest in Belarusian products across the Persian Gulf region.
Yuri Gorlov emphasized that these achievements open up new opportunities for further cooperation: “The agreements already in place between our countries allow us to map out future plans. The UAE is a popular tourist destination, and we would like our products to be as popular in the UAE. We produce high-quality goods that are recognized in many countries in the world. This year, we aim to reach new heights.”
Key Belarusian exports to the United Arab Emirates include skimmed and whole milk powder, cottage cheese, butter and rapeseed oil, fish and seafood products.
Another major area of cooperation is halal certification. In collaboration with BelHalal, 37 Belarusian enterprises have already obtained certificates of compliance with UAE standards, paving the way for expanding product offerings and boosting exports to the Arab market.
Ambassador Ibrahim Salim Mohamed Al Musharrakh stressed that the meeting will help unlock new horizons for interaction. Belarusian companies are actively participating in international exhibitions. “I was pleasantly surprised by the scale of participation and the quality of products showcased at one of our recent exhibitions. We have strong potential for investment, joint projects, and knowledge exchange, especially in the digital sphere and the use of artificial intelligence,” he said.
The diplomat also emphasized the importance of digital solutions and online platforms in modern trade, noting that the UAE is scaling up the use of artificial intelligence in agriculture. The parties proposed mutual support, exchange of experience, and implementation of joint projects.
The parties agreed to continue dialogue through regular meetings, explore expanding the range of exported products, increase the number of accredited enterprises, and develop investment cooperation.
