MINSK, 12 February (BelTA) - The contribution by the transport industry to Belarus’ GDP in terms of gross value added rose from 4.9% to 5.1% in 2024, Belarusian Transport and Communications Minister Aleksei Lyakhnovich said at the year-end board meeting of the ministry, the ministry's press service told BelTA.
Transportation services account for 50% of the country's services exports. Work continued to build logistics for the delivery of Belarusian products to foreign markets. Rail container transportation in the direction China - Belarus - China surged significantly.
“In 2024, the transportation industry met all targets. Exports of services amounted to $4.5 billion, or up by 19.6% as against 2023. By types of transportation: automobile surged by 12.4%, railway - 33.8%, air - 13.4%. Capital investments rose by 37.4%,” the minister informed.
Last year the transport industry worked hard on its competitiveness, technical re-equipment and working conditions.
