MINSK, 4 January (BelTA) – Belarus plans to step up cooperation in the field of digitalization with Vietnam and Laos, the Ministry of Communications and Informatization told BelTA.

Minister of Communications and Informatization Konstantin Shulgan met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar Vladimir Borovikov.

It was noted that the Republic of Belarus cooperates with Vietnam, Laos and other countries of Southeast Asia in the field of communications and informatization primarily within the framework of the International Telecommunication Union and the Universal Postal Union, which are the UN international specialized agencies.

The Ministry of Communications and Informatization is involved in efforts to implement roadmaps of joint activities of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Bank, ministries, concerns, regional executive committees and the Minsk City Council to increase and diversify Belarus’ exports to Vietnam, Laos, Thailand and Myanmar in 2023-2025, as well as to fulfil decisions of the Belarus-Vietnam intergovernmental commission on trade, economic, scientific and technical cooperation.

In order to build mutually beneficial cooperation and exchange best practices in the informatization and communications field, the Ministry of Communications and Informatization will send an invitation to the Vietnamese side to take part in the TIBO 2024 international forum on information and communication technologies that will be held in Minsk on 21-24 May.

As to postal services, cooperation with Laos was discussed taking into account the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Cooperation prospects with Vietnam and Laos in the field of digitalization were separately discussed taking into consideration the visit of Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko to Vietnam in early December 2023.
