Belarus to place major focus on family business, female entrepreneurship

MINSK, 29 May (BelTA) - The share of women in business is increasing in Belarus, Belarusian Economy Minister Yuri Chebotar told the media during the 2nd National Forum of Women Entrepreneurs “Energy and Development”, BelTA has learned.

“During the February meeting with the head of state to discuss business development, the key phrase was that there are no non-state enterprises. That is why we, as business regulators, also say that entrepreneurship has no gender. The key thing is that they should bring prosperity to themselves, their loved ones and contribute to our country's development,” Yuri Chebotar said.

Nevertheless, female business has its peculiarities, he said. “We pay attention to this. First of all, the issues of family business. Today, we are working to update Directive No. 4. This was the president's instruction at the February meeting. Family business, female entrepreneurship will be given close attention,” the minister said.

“The share of female entrepreneurship has grown significantly in recent years. We are doing our best to popularize it. There is an agreement with the Belarusian Women’s Union, and we also hold separate contests. Last year, we held contests for the best female entrepreneurs,” said Yuri Chebotar. “We are very actively developing our new regional initiative. Today we have more than 30 projects, and about 10 of them are implemented in cooperation with female entrepreneurs. We have a very positive agenda here. We hope that at today’s forum we will once again confirm our intentions and great potential.”

On 29-30 May female entrepreneurs from across Belarus will have an opportunity to discuss most important issues and share experience. The forum kicked off with a plenary session in the National Library of Belarus.
