Belarus to help Russia's Udmurtia to modernize public transport fleet

MOSCOW, 12 May (BelTA) - Belarus suggests public transport supply program until 2030 to Russia's Udmurtia, Belarus’ Ambassador to Russia Aleksandr Rogozhnik told BelTA following talks with Udmurtia’s Head Alexander Brechalov held in Moscow on 12 May.

"The Russian Federation has launched 19 major national projects, some of which focus on regional transport modernization. We had a detailed discussion on how Udmurtia will address this issue. At present, we have reached an agreement that this year we will supply 120 MAZ buses powered by natural gas. This matter is already under review. I believe that in the coming days we will coordinate the visit of our delegation to finalize all technical and commercial aspects related to this. Given the export support measures and decrees adopted by the Belarusian president, our product stands as one of the most competitive and the most economically viable in the Russian market. This makes our proposal attractive to our partners from Udmurtia," the ambassador explained.

"We agreed that in 2025 we will deliver 120 vehicles and then outline a transport modernization program until 2030, which will cover not only Izhevsk but also other regional cities," Ambassador Aleksandr Rogozhnik added.

The meeting also explored opportunities for industrial cooperation. "We discussed the regional elevator equipment modernization program, as around 3,000 units currently need renewal. This project could become partially localized within the region’s industrial enterprises," the diplomat noted.

According to the ambassador, Belarus and Udmurtia have been fostering cooperation across various industrial sectors. "We are making significant progress in machine tool manufacturing and high-tech projects within the framework of the Union State of Belarus and Russia. We are also advancing well in microelectronics," he said.

In 2024, trade between Belarus and Udmurtia reached $120 million. "Of course, this is not the figure we would like to achieve," the ambassador remarked, adding that the goal is set at $500 million. In the first quarter of this year, mutual trade saw a growth of over 65% year-on-year.
