MINSK, 31 March (BelTA) – Belarus can help Penza Oblast with sugar production. Governor of Russia's Penza Oblast Oleg Melnichenko made the statement after meeting with Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko on 31 March, BelTA has learned.
Oleg Melnichenko noted that granulated sugar is manufactured in Penza Oblast and 56,000ha of land had been sown with sugar beet. “But unfortunately the seeds are French. And unfortunately all the sugar beet harvesters as of today are imports. We see a great reserve for cooperation here,” the governor noted.
In his words, Penza Oblast sugar refineries may start using Belarusian seeds and Belarusian sugar beet harvesters. The joint production of sugar beet harvesters is being discussed with this in mind.
