MINSK, 17 October (BelTA) – New industry-specific strategies are supposed to be adopted in Belarus by the end of the year. Belarusian Economy Minister Yuri Chebotar mentioned it during an international scientific conference on problems of forecasting and state regulation of social and economic development, BelTA has learned.
Yuri Chebotar said: “Last year we updated the legal field. Instead of simply introducing corrections we’ve completed a systemic revision of our legislation in the area of planning and forecasting. We have got science and technologies involved in achieving social and economic development goals through project ideas of a comprehensive forecast of scientific and technological advance.”
Belarus is about to begin a new forecast cycle, which reference point is a draft of the national strategy on Belarus’ sustainable development for the period till 2040. It is a fundamental document that reflects the global understanding of long-term ideas and development prospects to demonstrate the image of the country’s future.
The development of industry-specific strategies is the next step. With this in mind the Economy Ministry has created conditions and methodological recommendations in addition to developing process charts. Expert support for this work has been organized. “Government agencies have started working on it. The documents are supposed to be adopted by the end of the year. The approach should not be formal. It should be a breakthrough. We encourage everyone to think strategically. Artificial intelligence, big data, robotization are already part of our reality. In this reality we will have to build a new intellectual economy with our own breakthrough technologies. And prosperous, strong regions should become our competitive advantages and conduits of modern technologies into the daily life for the benefit of people. It is one of our long-term priorities,” the economy minister stressed.
“People as the key value lie at the heart of the vision of Belarus’ future. And it is our task to create a well-developed, exemplary infrastructure for people’s life, development, and self-realization. We work proactively. The first draft of the concept of a five-year program for the period till 2030 has already been prepared. It specifies directions and ways of achieving strategic priorities of the national strategy on Belarus’ sustainable development for the period till 2040,” Yuri Chebotar concluded.
Taking part in the conference are heads of government agencies, Belarusian and foreign academic economists, experts, and representatives of the private sector. Provisions of the draft national strategy on Belarus’ sustainable development for the period till 2040 are presented before participants of the conference. Priorities and mechanisms of the state regulation of sustainable development in the new geopolitical and geoeconomic reality are being discussed at discussion venues.
