Belarus, Tanzania sign four memoranda in agriculture, education, business

MINSK, 22 July (BelTA) – Belarus and Tanzania signed four memoranda of understanding across key sectors following talks between Belarusian Prime Minister Aleksandr Turchin and Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa Majaliwa of the United Republic of Tanzania in Minsk on 22 July, BelTA learned.

The agreements include a memorandum of understanding on political consultations between the ministries of foreign affairs of the two countries. The parties also concluded a memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of Belarus and Tanzania's Ministry of Agriculture concerning cooperation in agricultural matters.

Additionally, the two nations signed a memorandum of understanding between the Education Ministry of Belarus and Tanzania's Ministry of Education, Science and Technology regarding cooperation in education.

The fourth document was a memorandum of cooperation between the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Tanzanian Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture.
“We held open substantive negotiations on the major areas of cooperation between Belarus and Tanzania,” Prime Minister Aleksandr Turchin told journalists after the meeting. "We discussed joint steps to develop political and interagency dialogue, examined ways to develop bilateral trade, and cooperation in the field of food security," he emphasized.

Given that Belarus has experience working on the African continent in supplying agricultural machinery, Tanzania has been offered expertise and technologies in modernization of agriculture, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, education, science and other areas. "We have signed a whole package of bilateral documents that are designed to intensify cooperation and build new sustainable relations in diplomatic, agricultural and educational avenues and also between business circles of Belarus and Tanzania," the Belarusian head of government noted.

During the visit the Tanzanian delegation is set to tour MTZ, BelAZ, Belmedpreparaty, MZKT and other industrial flagships to get familiar with the industrial, agricultural, and educational potential of Belarus, the Belarusian prime minister noted. "This comprehensive program fully demonstrates that Belarus views Tanzania as an important political and economic partner in East Africa," he said. "Strengthening friendly relations with African nations and expanding multifaceted trade and economic ties are key priorities of state policy that Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko pays special attention to."
