Belarus submits EAEU biological security strategy to EEC Council

MOSCOW, 10 November (BelTA) - Belarus has submitted the issue of developing a biological security strategy for the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) to the forthcoming Eurasian Economic Commission Council session with the participation of vice premiers of the Eurasian Five on 12 November, official representative of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) Iya Malkina told a briefing for the press on 10 November, BelTA has learned.

“On the initiative of the Belarusian side the issue of developing a biological security strategy of the EAEU will be considered,” said Iya Malkina.

A total of 16 issues are on the agenda. “The deputy prime ministers will discuss amendments to the EAEU Treaty in part of determining the procedure for levying indirect taxes when providing online services. Plans are in place to consider coordinated approaches to finalizing a draft agreement on a harmonized system of determining the origin of goods exported from the customs territory of the EAEU,” the EEC representative said.

The agenda also includes technical regulations “On the safety of metro rolling stock”, “On the safety of high voltage equipment”. “At Kazakhstan's initiative there are plans to discuss the issue of restricting the export of certain types of timber from the territory of Russia,” Iya Malkina said.

In her words, a meeting of the committee to eliminate differences and controversial situations and ensure freedom of movement of goods in the EAEU is scheduled on 11 November. The agenda includes the operation of the market of medical devices after 1 January 2022 and the order of importation into the territory of the EAEU of products subject to mandatory conformity assessment.
