Belarus, South Sudan discuss promising areas of cooperation in agriculture

MINSK, 6 February (BelTA) – Belarusian First Deputy Agriculture and Food Minister Sergei Fedchenko met with a delegation from South Sudan to discuss promising areas of cooperation in Minsk on 6 February, BelTA has learned.

"Agriculture is a high-tech, modern and highly productive sector of the Belarusian economy. It has gathered momentum over the last 30 years thanks to the support of the state and the personal commitment of the head of state. Not only do we supply the domestic market with food products, but we also export significant volumes of products. Our farms use national technologies and modern equipment," Sergei Fedchenko said.

According to him, Belarus is ready to supply South Sudan with agricultural products, farm machines and equipment. "We can also design large dairy farms and complexes. We also have a very developed education system in agriculture: the system of the Agriculture and Food Ministry includes four higher education institutions. We run both basic training programs and also courses for advanced training," Sergei Fedchenko noted.

He pointed out that Belarus holds a large annual exhibition of agricultural achievements, Belagro, in early June and invited South Sudan to attend it.  "We have a lot of common interests. We are ready to share our experience in mechanization of agriculture and to supply you with all the necessary equipment for tillage," Sergei Fedchenko said addressing the guests from South Sudan.

He also spoke about the production of corn seeds and the possibility of supplying them to South Sudan. "We are completely self-sufficient in sugar, which we produce from sugar beet. We produce twice as much of this product as we can consume. We look forward to expanding cooperation with South Sudan and increasing our trade," Sergei Fedchenko added.
