Belarus, South Africa to promote cooperation in standardization, metrology  

MINSK, 16 July (BelTA) - A delegation from South Africa visited the State Committee for Standardization of Belarus to exchange experience in the field of standardization, metrology and quality assessment, BelTA learned from State Committee for Standardization of Belarus.

The visit began with talks at the Belarusian State Institute of Metrology (BelGIM). First Deputy Chairman of the State Committee for Standardization Aleksandr Burak hailed the role of standardization and metrology as key elements of the Belarusian quality system. He also proposed to consider the development of cooperation in the field of standardization, metrology and accreditation between the relevant organizations of the two countries. For this purpose, the State Committee for Standardization prepared drafts of the relevant documents. “We hope that our meeting will be useful for the development of cooperation between our countries in all avenues,” Aleksandr Burak added. 

The South African delegation was represented by Cecil Masoka, Director for Multilateral Cooperation at the Department of Science and Technology (DST), and other specialists.

The guests visited BelGIM laboratories to see food testing and the national time standard and also toured the facilities of the Belarusian State Institute of Standardization and Certification (BelGISS), including test centers of household appliances. Cecil Masoka expressed confidence that the Belarusian experience will be useful for the development of science and improving the quality of products in South Africa, stressing the readiness for further cooperation.
The visit was an important step in strengthening bilateral relations between Belarus and South Africa in the field of standardization and quality control.
