MINSK, 12 February (BelTA) – The resolution of the European Parliament on the Belarusian nuclear power plant (BelNPP) is highly politicized, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Energy Ministry.
“Violating their own principles of ‘objectivity and impartiality', they passed a blatantly politicized resolution without having any plausible reasons, without waiting for the preliminary report of the experts of the European Nuclear Safety Regulators Group (ENSREG), who visited the plant recently for a peer review that is viewed as very important by the European Commission,” the press service said.
“This is a clear example of double standards, which have nothing in common with objective evaluation and real state of affairs. Such an approach does not contribute to strengthening the international community's trust in the EU nuclear safety regulation system,” the ministry believes.
The ministry pointed out that despite multiple attempts of Lithuanian and other European politicians to demonstrate ‘the unwillingness of Belarus to discuss the safety of the BelNPP', the country has been working systemically with the leading international organizations in nuclear and radiation safety, including ENSREG. “Within the framework of the peer review, representatives of this organization visited the BelNPP on 9-10 February and got familiar with the status of implementation of the national plan of action following the stress tests. They visited all facilities of the plant they wanted to visit, perused the necessary materials, and got answers to their questions. The experts noted that the Belarusian party eagerly facilitated their work at the BelNPP and that they completed all their tasks during the visit to the BelNPP,” the press service stressed.
