Belarus seeks to produce 1m tonnes of fruits per year

Grodno District, 18 August (BelTA) - Belarus seeks to produce 1 million tonnes of fruits per year, Belarusian Deputy Prime Minister Leonid Zayats told the media, BelTA reports.

"The president has set a task. In the next five years, in 2021-2025, we need to plant intensive gardens so that we can produce at least 1 million tonnes of fruits in the country . These are pears, apples, plums, cherries and so on," Leonid Zayats said .

In his opinion, this is a feasible task, especially since the country has accumulated both practical and scientific experience. The climatic conditions are growing more suitable too.

“We need to take stock of all farms in our country and to fine-tune the technology,” he added.

In 2021, the production of fruits and berries in Belarus increased by 2.8 times over 2010 and amounted to almost 184,000 tonnes, inclduing more than 171,00 tonnes of apples.
