Belarus seeks to expand agricultural exports to China

MINSK, 29 July (BelTA) – Belarus is interested in expanding the range of its agricultural exports to China, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry following a meeting between Belarusian Agriculture Minister Yuri Gorlov and Sun Meijun, Minister of the General Administration of Customs of China, in Beijing.

The parties signed an updated bilateral protocol on inspection, quarantine, and veterinary-sanitary requirements for poultry exported from Belarus to China. Yuri Gorlov thanked his Chinese counterparts for organizing the meeting and praised the professionalism of China’s customs officials in facilitating bilateral trade. He emphasized that agriculture is Belarus’ pride and that Belarusian products are in high demand among Chinese consumers.

To date, 188 Belarusian food producers are registered in China’s Single Window customs system (CIFER). The minister expressed confidence that the talks would lay the groundwork for further professional dialogue, aligning with the strategic level of trust between the two countries. Discussions focused on supplying Belarusian poultry products to the Chinese market, particularly compliance with China’s quality and safety standards.

“Belarus expressed interest in broadening its export range to China, including various types of cereals, flakes, bran, and flour (oat, barley, buckwheat, corn, and wheat), as well as non-food products such as rapeseed meal and peat. Belarus is also keen to supply China with ready-to-eat thermally processed poultry and beef products, as well as canned poultry meat,” the press service said.

Yuri Gorlov also held talks with Cai Huiyi, Chairman of the China Animal Agriculture Association to discuss supplies of modern equipment and advanced technologies for pig and goat farming. Following the meeting, the parties agreed to organize a visit for Belarusian experts to China to study the operations of leading Chinese companies in these sectors.

The minister stressed that the meeting marked an important step in strengthening the strategic partnership between Belarus and China, which has been a model of sincere friendship and mutually beneficial cooperation for over 30 years. Amid the current geopolitical landscape, the two countries demonstrate to the world an example of genuine cooperation based on mutual respect and support, he added.

The parties acknowledged significant potential for sectoral cooperation. Yuri Gorlov briefed his counterpart on Belarus’ priorities in livestock development, including the implementation of the National Food Security Doctrine. Chinese partners showed particular interest in Belarus’ achievements in dairy and pig farming.

Belarus is heavily investing in industry modernization - the country operates over 1,700 high-tech dairy farms, with plans to fully transition dairy herds to advanced technologies by 2030. Under the 2025-2034 ultra-modern pig farming development strategy, Belarus plans to construct 12 pig farming complexes featuring biosecurity systems and AI-powered digital monitoring.

The parties reached a mutual understanding on further cooperation in adopting advanced technologies, including knowledge-sharing on establishing modern dairy and meat production facilities with innovative management solutions.
