MINSK, 20 August (BelTA) - Ulan-Ude played host to the fourth meeting of the working group on cooperation between Belarus and Russia’s Buryatia, BelTA learned from the Belarusian State Food Industry Concern Belgospishcheprom.
The Belarusian delegation and the Buryatia government discussed prospects for cooperation in industry, trade, agriculture, healthcare, and tourism. Over the past five years, the trade between Belarus and Russia’s Buryatia has quadrupled, and growth potential remains high. This Russian region supplies component parts to Belarus, while Belarus’ major exports to Buryatia are high-tech products.
Food supplies were in focus too. Belarusian dairy products are already available on the shelves of Buryatia stores. However, the parties discussed the expansion of direct supplies, and agreed on new areas of cooperation, including meat procurement. The Buryatia side noted that it is self-sufficient in pork and, accordingly, has ensured price stability. In terms of beef, the region is struggling with the deficit and price hikes. In order to contain the increase in prices, the parties also discussed the supply of Belarusian beef to the region.
Belgospishcheprom Concern signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Association of Exporters and Importers of Buryatia, aimed at establishing a strategic partnership. Additionally, cooperation agreements were signed between medical institutions of Buryatia and Belarus (exchange of experience and joint projects) and a letter of intent was concluded between Minsk Dairy Plant No. 1 and the Buryatia company Tea Way.
