Belarus-Russia trade in agricultural products up by 15% in 2024

MOSCOW, 5 February (BelTA) - Belarusian Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Shuleiko met with Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Patrushev to discuss cooperation between Belarus and Russia in agriculture, fishery and environmental protection in Moscow on 5 February, BelTA learned from the press service of the Russian government.

"Russia and Belarus have been expanding their cooperation in a number of areas, including agriculture. According to preliminary data, in 2024 the trade in agricultural products increased by 15%, exceeding $8 billion. We hope that this momentum will continue," Dmitry Patrushev stated at the meeting.

"Both mutual trade and joint development of foreign markets demonstrate sustainable growth. Belarus and Russia also successfully cooperate in seed production. As for environment protection and natural resource management, the countries actively work together within the framework of the joint collegiums of relevant agencies. Following the last meeting, Russia and Belarus signed a program of cooperation on environmental protection and efficient natural resources management for a three-year period. The program provides for joint activities to develop the system of specially protected natural areas, including ecotourism and educational events, exchange of experience in state environmental monitoring and waste management," the press service said.

In 2024, Belarus and Russia also approved a roadmap for transboundary water management cooperation. It includes 119 measures to preserve and restore water bodies in the Dnieper and Western Dvina basins.  

"Through the CIS Intergovernmental Council, Belarus and Russia have been taking measures to increase the level of geological exploration of border areas, including monitoring of underground transboundary waters. This will improve the efficiency of field development," the press service added.
