Belarus-Russia regional forum seen as driving force behind Union State’s economic growth

NIZHNY NOVGOROD, 25 June (BelTA) - The Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia is a driving force behind the development of the Belarus-Russia Union State’s economy, Chairman of the Standing Commission on Legislation and State Building of the Council of the Republic Mikhail Rusy told BelTA.

The 12th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia begins its work in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia. It will run until 27 June. This year’s theme is “The Youth of Belarus and Russia – Heirs of the Great Victory and the Future of the Union State”. It is organized by the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus and the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia.

There is a strong interest in the forum and many people are eager to participate in it. “A large number of agreements have already been reached at the regional level, between regional and district councils, and between legislative assemblies, which is encouraging. Around 150 such agreements are expected to be signed on the sidelines of the forum. In addition, over 100 contracts for a substantial amount will be signed. This will lead to the creation of new jobs, the growth of the economy, and the improvement of people’s well-being,” Mikhail Rusy said. “The forum is a powerful tool that helps solve many significant issues.” He also emphasized that “these meetings are a kind of unifying force, the strength of the people and the strength of the law, which helps us stay on the right path.”

Participants have arrived in Nizhny Novgorod today. The key events will kick off tomorrow, on 26 June. An exhibition of economic achievements of the regions of Belarus and Russia will open, along with a trade fair, a creative technologies forum. The signing of cooperation agreements, commercial contracts, and other documents aimed at expanding bilateral cooperation will also take place.

A joint meeting between the governing bodies of the Chamber of Young Legislators under the Federation Council and the Youth Council under the Council of the Republic is also scheduled for 26 June. On the same day, seven section meetings of the forum will take place. A session of the Accounts Chamber of Russia and the State Control Committee of Belarus titled “Social support for the population: the role of external state audit institutions” and a joint event of the chambers of commerce and industry of Belarus and Russia to discuss promising business cooperation projects between Russian and Belarusian regions as a foundation for the well-being of future generations will be held on 26 June.

A meeting between Chairwoman of the Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko and Chairwoman of the Council of the Republic Natalya Kochanova with youth representatives from Russia and Belarus is scheduled for 26 June.

On 27 June, Valentina Matviyenko and Natalya Kochanova are set to meet with leaders of government bodies from the constituent entities of the Russian Federation and the regions of the Republic of Belarus. The plenary session of the 12th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia “The Youth of Belarus and Russia – Heirs of the Great Victory and the Future of the Union State” will also take place on 27 June.
