Belarus ready to supply Russia’s Sverdlovsk Oblast with trolleybuses, trams, fire-fighting machinery

MINSK, 24 February (BelTA) - Belarus is ready to supply trolleybuses, trams and fire-fighting machinery to Sverdlovsk Oblast of Russia, Belarusian Deputy Prime Minister Viktor Karankevich said during the Belarus-Sverdlovsk Oblast Business Cooperation Council meeting on 24 February, BelTA has learned.

The major areas of cooperation include the supply of passenger, road, utilities and cargo vehicles. “A good example of cooperation is a joint project to renew the trolleybus fleet of Yekaterinburg. We are ready to continue supplies of trolleybuses. We will pay special attention to aftersales service. We count on the implementation of agreements to upgrade the tram fleet in Yekaterinburg. We offer to purchase Belarus’ fire-fighting machinery and equipment which is not produced in your region. We are ready to supply all machine-building products on favorable financial terms with the provision of benefits from the Belarusian government,” Viktor Karankevich said.

As for industrial cooperation, he named a project the implementation of which should be accelerated. “The project is under consideration at the Industry Ministry. It is a roadmap for cooperation in machine tool building. We suggest making a final decision on the topic at today's meeting of the council,” the deputy prime minister said.

He put a special emphasis on cooperation in energy. “Most of the turbines used in the energy system of Belarus are produced in the Urals. All work in this area is carried out through the prism of import substitution. Power engineers of Belarus and Sverdlovsk Oblast will work out the issues related to mutual supplies of various equipment, transformers, relay protection and other energy equipment,” Viktor Karankevich said.

Another promising avenue of cooperation is agriculture. “Belarus and your region pay a lot of attention to the development of this sector. Where necessary, we are ready to lend a shoulder and step up our participation in the agricultural development programs of Sverdlovsk Oblast. We hope that the current visit will give an impetus to the interaction, including to the training of personnel for agriculture,” the deputy prime minister said.

Cooperation in construction, housing and utilities is also on the rise. “Taking into account the ambitious plans for road construction and metro development in Yekaterinburg, joint work on these projects can bring trade and economic cooperation to a new level,” Viktor Karankevich emphasized.

The experience and competencies of Belavtodor Holding Company in the construction and reconstruction of roads, interchanges and bridges can be useful in the modernization and construction of road infrastructure in Sverdlovsk Oblast, he pointed out.

Interregional ties keep the momentum. “In September 2024 Minsk played host to the Days of Yekaterinburg. In March of this year, we are planning the Days of Minsk in Yekaterinburg. Cooperation in science, education, sport and culture has been growing. Among the new topics are the joint research, for example to improve the technologies for the production of powder and ceramic materials, to create advanced metrological observation tools,” the deputy prime minister added.
