MINSK, 16 April (BelTA) - Belarus is willing to organize assembly production of agricultural machinery in Algeria, Belarus’ Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Shuleiko said as he met with Youcef Cherfa, Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria, BelTA learned.
Yuri Shuleiko emphasized Belarus’ readiness to supply agricultural machinery to Algeria and set up assembly production there. "I believe this will be discussed in the coming days of your visit with relevant Belarusian government bodies," he addressed Youcef Cherfa. "We are ready to discuss directions for further cooperation to make your visit as productive as possible."
The Algerian delegation led by Youcef Cherfa includes representatives from eight ministries. As for Algeria's position in the economy of the African continent, the country ranks third, and agriculture holds a significant share of its GDP.
"We see potential in cooperating with Belarus. Your country imports fruits and vegetables, manufactures dairy products and such strategically important goods as grain crops, including corn. We can effectively cooperate in these areas," Youcef Cherfa said. He explained that Algeria also produces these crops but currently seeks to strengthen its market.
Youcef Cherfa highlighted that Belarus is one of the regional leaders in automobile manufacturing. "We have always been interested in the supply of Belarusian agricultural machinery," he said. "We need to develop potential in various areas."
