Belarus ramps up regions’ production potential

MINSK, 16 August (BelTA) – Belarus is gradually ramping up the production potential of the regions, Belarusian Economy Minister Yuri Chebotar said following a working visit to Gomel Oblast, BelTA learned from the Economy Ministry's press service.

During the working visit, the minister toured the branch No.2 of Rechitsa Textile Company in Korma District. He held a meeting with the enterprise's staff. Yuri Chebotar was asked about the development prospects of the enterprise, the region and the country's economy in general.

“The Belarusian economy showed  sustainable growth in H1 2024. Almost all main sectors – industry, agriculture, trade, construction, transportation – have exceeded the target,” Yuri Chebotar stressed. “Economic efficiency allows raising wages and pensions. The real income of Belarusians rose by over 9% year-on-year.”

The economy minister noted that the expansion of the investment portfolio and the systemic ramping up of the regions' production potential allow to maintain a positive trend. In June another 28 business ideas became a part of One District, One Project initiative. 11 import-substituting projects would be supported.

"It is important that the lists of such projects are constantly expanding: another 25 initiatives is under consideration. It is our reserve of future economic growth,” the minister emphasized.

Yuri Chebotar got acquainted with the progress of the investment project meant to start the production of  blankets and towels at Rechitsa Textile. The initiative is  part of the One District, One Project program. The first stage of the project has been successfully completed. In March 2024 the enterprise reached its design capacity.

During the working trip the economy minister visited KUP Kormalen. The enterprise is implementing an investment project on reconstructing manufacturing facilities and installing double-flow lines. The new lines will increase the volume of flax fiber production almost twofold. In addition, more than 25 jobs are planned to be created. Yuri Chebotar discussed with the enterprise's management the problems arising during the project realization and the ways to resolve them.

The minister also held a meeting with citizens in the Korma District Executive Committee and answered questions concerning handicraft activities and laws regulating the lease relations.
