Belarus prime minister talks about this year's harvest targets

MINSK, 4 April (BelTA) – Prime Minister of Belarus Roman Golovchenko talked about plans concerning this year's harvest on the air of the TV channel Belarus One, BelTA has learned.

Roman Golovchenko said: “We've increased the arable land. Weather permitting, we will have to gather in 9 million tonnes of cereals. It is also necessary to gather in 5 million tonnes of sugar beet. As world markets demonstrate now, sugar is in high demand. Apart from that, it is necessary to gather in more colza seeds. It is also necessary to secure an increase in milk production and the weight gain of cattle in order to keep the country well-supplied with bread, meat, and milk.

Roman Golovchenko also remarked that more winter crops have been sown in Belarus this time. “It is necessary to make more protein of our own in order to feed animals when the import of extraction cakes gets disrupted,” he added.
