MOSCOW, 20 January (BelTA) – The Economic Affairs Commission under the CIS Economic Council held its first meeting in 2021 under the chairmanship of Belarus' Ambassador to Russia, Belarus' Plenipotentiary Representative at the CIS Economic Council Vladimir Semashko on 20 January, BelTA learned from the press service of the embassy.
Vladimir Semashko presented the concept of Belarus' presidency in the CIS in 2021. He noted that Belarus declared the following as the main goals of its presidency: further deepening of integration processes in the CIS with the establishment of a broad Eurasian cooperation zone, including through cooperation with other regional organizations and associations; promotion of the common economic space, formation of conditions for mutual cooperation ensuring comprehensive and balanced development of all CIS member states; strengthening of humanitarian relations, expansion of contacts between the CIS member states. A special focus of the Belarusian presidency will be on the further development of the common economic space.
“The members of the commission agreed to facilitate the implementation of the economic aspects of the Belarus' CIS presidency concept in 2021. The commission's action plan for 2021, which was developed at Belarus' initiative, was also approved at the meeting,” the press service said.
The CIS Heads of State Council decided on 18 December 2020 that Belarus would preside in the CIS in 2021. The presidency is held at the Heads of State Council, the Heads of Government Council, the Foreign Ministers Council, the Economic Council, the CIS Plenipotentiaries Council, and also the Economic Affairs Commission under the CIS Economic Council.
