Belarus’ PM: The task is to provide population with affordable rental housing

MINSK, 7 May (BelTA) - Belarus has set a task to provide its population with affordable rental housing, Belarusian Prime Minister Aleksandr Turchin said at a sitting of the House of Representatives on 7 May, BelTA has learned.

“Plans are in place to build about 5 million square meters of such housing. The total amount of financing will amount to Br13.5 billion. This measure should become one of the most important steps to attract and retain specialists in the regions. The principle is simple: if you come to work at a factory or an agricultural enterprise, you will quickly get your own housing. We will also retain state support in the construction of housing for large families, orphans and other vulnerable categories of citizens. As a result, we will approach the average European level of housing availability - 33 square meters per capita,” the prime minister said.

According to Aleksandr Turchin, the transition from minimum social standards to standards of comfortable living will be ensured. “That is, the standard of living of our people in the regions will be brought closer to the standard of living in the country’s capital. The system of standards has already been developed and is being tested,” Aleksandr Turchin said.

The prime minister presented the government action program for 2025-2029 in the House of Representatives on 7 May.
