Belarus’ PM: EAEU’s strength lies in pragmatism

ALMATY, 31 January (BelTA) - The EAEU's strength lies in pragmatism, and the real work of the union is not replaced by political slogans, Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko said at the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council meeting on 30 January, BelTA has learned.

“Our countries are linked by close economic relations and large-scale trade. We realize that the potential of cooperation within the union is still hugely untapped. We have to do a lot to get closer to the common vision of our union, reflected in the declaration on the further development of economic processes within the EAEU until 2030 and for the period until 2045, the so-called Eurasian Economic Path,” Roman Golovchenko said

The strength of the organization is in its pragmatism, he added. “The idea of Eurasian economic integration is not subject to political factors. Our real work is not substituted by some political slogans and is always aimed at practical results, and we have them,” the prime minister said.

According to Roman Golovchenko, the GDP of the Union is steadily growing, and at a faster-than-expected pace. It is expected that at the end of the year, this key indicator of the economy's functioning (the figures are not final) will amount to about 4%, which is higher than both the global GDP and the GDP of the Eurozone.

“The achievements of the Union are the result of the right choice of the integration vector of development,” the prime minister said. “However, positive assessments of the EAEU do not mean that all the tasks that were set at the establishment of the Union have been solved.”

In order for the economies of the countries to develop vibrantly and the social and economic situation in the region to remain stable, it is necessary to continue active work, including taking into account the latest trends in the world economy, the emergence of new technologies and innovations, Roman Golovchenko stressed.
