ISLAMABAD, 25 November (BelTA) - Belarusian companies plan to launch assembly of agricultural and cargo machinery in Pakistan, Energy Minister, co-chairman of the Belarusian-Pakistani intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation Aleksei Kushnarenko told the media on the sidelines of the Belarusian-Pakistani business forum in Islamabad on 25 November, BelTA has learned.
“Belarusian manufacturers intend to set up facilities to assemble agricultural and cargo machinery here. These can be multifunctional centers, assembly plants. We see the huge interest from Pakistan in this area. I think this will be confirmed by concrete contracts and agreements during the forum. Machinery accounts for the lion's share of Belarusian exports to Pakistan,” Aleksei Kushnarenko said.
Belarus also has its own interests in Pakistan. For example, the light industry is very well developed here. Belarus imports Pakistani fruits. Pharmacology is steadily developing. “These are such points of growth, which should be discussed, which we should keep in focus and develop the existing potential,” Aleksei Kushnarenko said.
BelTA reported earlier that Minsk Tractor Plant (MTZ trademark) was considering setting up an assembly plant in Pakistan. “As an exporter to almost all the continents, we have a number of technical standard solutions, which envisage assembly plants to produce from 500 to 10,000 units per year. We have the necessary component technical base. The site, financial support and other issues have yet to be solved together with our partners,” MTZ Director General Sergei Avramenko said.

According to the minister, China and neighboring countries are among Belarus' competitors in Pakistan. However, the level of competencies and development of industry and agriculture allows Belarusian companies to compete on equal terms with the main players in the Pakistani market.
