
MINSK, 3 April (BelTA) – Belarus and Pakistan are intensifying cooperation in agriculture, the press service of the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry told BelTA following a working meeting between Belarusian Deputy Agriculture and Food Minister Vadim Shagoiko and representatives of a ministerial delegation from the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
The delegation was headed by Federal Secretary for National Food Security and Research Waseem Chaudhry and Federal Secretary for Industries and Production Saif Anjum.
"Last year, the agricultural and food product exports from Belarus to Pakistan grew by 39.5% year-on-year. Traditionally, Pakistan purchases baby formula, skimmed milk powder and whey in Belarus . In turn, Belarus imports rice and mandarins," the press service noted.
Belarus and Pakistan have created a working group to develop cooperation in new areas and to strengthen bilateral relations.
Belarus is proud of its achievements in agriculture. State programs to support the agricultural sector have increased the production of competitive products and redirected foreign trade towards exports. The main exports include dairy, meat and crop products.
During the meeting, the parties agreed to exchange sanitary requirements for animal products to access the markets and establish cooperation in aquaculture, including internships for Pakistani specialists in Belarus. The countries will continue their work on the registration and supply of veterinary drugs to Pakistan and enhance cooperation in the seed sector, including testing plant varieties.
The parties confirmed the mutual interest in furthering the partnership.
