Belarus, Nicaragua sign $36m agreements

MINSK, 23 May (BelTA) - Belarus and Nicaragua have signed contracts worth $36 million following a meeting of the joint Belarusian-Nicaraguan commission on trade and economic cooperation held in Managua on 22 May. This was reported on the air of the Belarus 1 TV channel, BelTA has learned.

“Our countries engage as equals, unlike some other nations which impose their will on others. Belarus is always ready to support the people of Nicaragua in economic development by supplying investment goods that contribute to the country's long-term economic growth,” First Deputy Chairman of the Board of Belarus’ National Bank Aleksandr Yegorov emphasized.

Laureano Facundo Ortega Murillo, advisor for investments, trade, and international cooperation to the Nicaragua president, stressed that Belarus' assistance opens new opportunities for Nicaragua. “Thanks to the support of brotherly Belarus, we are focused on working with the large market of the Eurasian Economic Union. We would like to once again remind our Belarusian friends that our joint projects in trade, economic, scientific, and technical areas are not limited to the Nicaraguan market. Nicaragua can serve as a gateway for Belarusian goods and technologies to the markets of neighboring countries in the region,” he said.

Belarus is willing to share its experience in the areas of vegetable cultivation and dairy production, and sees potential in projects related to pharmaceuticals, medical device manufacturing, and education.
