MINSK, 17 February (BelTA) – Belarus is a leader in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) in per capita meat and milk production, Belarusian Agriculture and Food Minister Igor Brylo said at the international forum “Agriculture of Belarus. Dairy Farming” on 17 February, BelTA has learned.
“Belarus is positioned as a country that produces natural high-quality products from domestic raw materials. Well-developed production capacity has helped the country achieve a high level of per capita production and consumption. Belarus is a leader in the Eurasian Economic Union in per capita meat and milk production. The country produces twice as much meat per capita as Russia and Kazakhstan. It is 2.5 times ahead of Kazakhstan in milk production per capita and more than 3 times ahead of Armenia, Kyrgyzstan and Russia,” said Igor Brylo.
According to EEC statistics, the per capita production of milk resource in Belarus is 828 kg/person (225 kg/person in Armenia, 317 kg/person in Kazakhstan, 252 kg/person in Kyrgyzstan, 214 kg/person) in Russia), and that of meat and meat products - 137 kg/person (36 kg/person in Armenia, 62 kg/person in Kazakhstan, 35 kg/person in Kyrgyzstan, 77 kg/person in Russia).
“The policy pursued to develop competitive production of high-quality food products ensures the saturation of the domestic market. From the distribution of food products using cards at the beginning of the 1990s, the country moved on to become an export-oriented economy, ready to sell surplus foodstuffs abroad in large quantities. The country has fully solved the issue of food security,” the minister stressed.
Minsk is hosting the international forum “Agriculture of Belarus. Dairy Farming” on 17 February. The event highlights milk production technologies. The event has brought together experts in zootechnics, fodder production, veterinary medicine, pedigree business, and also representatives of regional agriculture and food authorities, dairy plants, and farms.
The best farms will be honored in a ceremony during the forum.
