Belarus-Irkutsk Oblast working group on cooperation to meet on 7 December

BREST, 5 December (BelTA) – The working group on cooperation between Belarus and Russia's Irkutsk Oblast is set to hold its seventh meeting in Irkutsk on 7 December, BelTA learned from the economy committee of the Brest Oblast Executive Committee.

The Belarusian delegation will be headed by Brest Oblast Governor Yury Shuleiko, who is responsible for coordinating cooperation between the country and this Russian region in the southeastern part of the Siberian Federal District. The delegation will also comprise representatives of Belarus' major industrial enterprises - MAZ, BelAZ, MTZ, Amkodor, Belkommunmash. The Brest Oblast business community will be represented by Brestgazoapparat, Berezovsky meat canning plant, Malorita canning and vegetable processing plant and Kobrin butter and cheese-making plant.

The parties are expected to sign an action plan to implement an agreement on cooperation in trade, economy, science, technology and culture between Belarus and Irkutsk Oblast for 2023-2025. An agreement of intent will also be signed between the rural settlement of Turgenevka in Bayandayevsky District and the Motol village council, Ivanovo District.

Apart from the meeting of the working group, the program will include an exchange of business contacts organized by the Brest branch of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Eastern Siberia. The meeting of the governors and visits to large industrial enterprises of Irkutsk Oblast are also in the plans.

In January-September 2022 the trade between Belarus and Irkutsk Oblast increased by 16% year-on-year to exceed $102 million. The export went up by 11.4% to more than $24 million.

The sixth meeting of the working group on cooperation took place in 2021 in the form of a video conference.
