
Belarus interested in advancing trade, economic relations with Myanmar
MINSK, 6 March (BelTA) – Belarus is interested in advancing bilateral trade and economic relations with Myanmar. Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Yuri Shuleiko made the statement as he met with Chairman of the State Administration Council, Prime Minister of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar Min Aung Hlaing, BelTA has learned.
Yuri Shuleiko remarked that a series of meetings of the Myanmar delegation with Belarus’ representatives is starting today. “It is justified by our kind intentions in favor of cooperation in all fields. We are very interested in advancing the bilateral trade and economic relations. Belarus is a machine-building and agricultural country. There are many fields where we can be useful to each other,” the deputy prime minister noted.
Belarus’ representatives met with representatives of Myanmar’s private sector in February. According to Yuri Shuleiko, the parties communicated very tightly and became very close over a short period of time. “The first agreements have already been reached and an agreement on shipping dry milk formula to Myanmar will be signed today. Belarus is a major manufacturer of baby food for children aged zero and above and we have seen strong interest in these products. The first trial batches will be shipped soon for the sake of getting evaluated by your healthcare ministry,” the deputy prime minister told Min Aung Hlaing.
Chairman of the State Administration Council, Prime Minister of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar Min Aung Hlaing noted that the reinforcement of multisectoral cooperation of the two countries, primarily cooperation in economy, was the purpose of the visit to Belarus. “The signing of contracts on shipping products from Belarus proves that our cooperation develops. We intend to buy tractors, fertilizers, pharmaceutical products, and other goods,” Min Aung Hlaing noted. He also suggested considering the establishment of manufacturing facilities in Myanmar’s territory, in particular, agricultural ones.
The meeting took place ahead of a Belarus-Myanmar business forum, which began in Minsk on 6 March. The signing of a number of agreements on cooperation will become an important result of the forum. It will allow bolstering economic ties between Belarus and Myanmar.
