MINSK, 12 May (BelTA) - Belarus will soon launch beef supplies to the Vietnamese market, Belarusian Agriculture and Food Minister of Yuri Gorlov told the media, BelTA learned.
According to the minister, Belarus currently supplies dairy products and dried dairy products to Vietnam. Whole milk packed in tetrapack is in particular demand.
"Last year food exports amounted to a little over $6 million, which was more than a year prior," the minister said, adding that such momentum remained in place in the first quarter of this year.
A delegation of Belarusian specialists visited Vietnam to build further cooperation. "Certain agreements were reached with regard to beef supplies to the Vietnamese market. We have come a long way; the Vietnamese side has already confirmed our veterinary certificates. We just need to clarify certain documents and thus we will be able to launch beef supplies to the Vietnamese market soon,” Yuri Gorlov said. Similar work is being carried out to obtain veterinary certificates for pork and poultry supplies.
According to him, Belarusians and Vietnamese have similar preferences in terms of food products, so everything produced in Belarus can be exported to Vietnam. In turn, Belarus buys rice, seafood and fruits from Vietnam. Food imports from Vietnam so far exceed exports. "Therefore, in this part, we still have a room to ramp up our exports to the Vietnamese market," the minister said.
