Belarus' inflation at 4.7% in 2019

MINSK, 13 January (BelTA) – In December 2019 the index of consumer prices for goods and services totaled 100.5% as against November 2019 and 104.7% as against December 2018, BelTA learned from the National Statistics Committee of Belarus.

In December 2019 the base index of consumer prices, which does not account for changes in prices for individual goods and services susceptible to administrative and seasonal factors, stood at 100.1% over November 2019 and 103.5% as against December 2018.

Belarus had the inflation running at 5.6% in 2018, and 4.6% in 2017.

A reminder, the main priority of the monetary policy in 2019 was the reduction of inflation measured by the consumer price index to the level of 5% (December 2019 against December 2018). Belarus' National Statistics Committee registered deflation in June and August.

The 2020 main task is to keep inflation under 5% in annual terms. It is projected to stay under 2.5% in the first quarter, 3.2% in January-June and 3.6% in January-September.
